Music is about making money – Article Wan
Afrobeat artiste, Article Wan, believes currently the primary goal of every musician is to make money thus content or genre of the song is not very important anymore.
The Solo hitmaker thinks the modern Ghanaian music lover does not care about lyrics but rather what they can dance to.
“Shatta Wale is making all the money now despite being criticised that his lyrics are nothing to write home about.
“Some people have even said that he is not a Dancehall artiste because he does different genres of music but once he is making money, I don't think he should be bothered about all these talks”, Article Wan told Showbiz in an interview.
Article Wan explained that, there are great musicians with powerful lyrics yet are very poor financially while the likes of Shatta Wale who some people see as noise makers keep raking in the money.
“I did a lot of positive songs with good lyrics but no one paid attention until I dropped Solo which brought me to the limelight. In fact, I made a lot of money performing from one show to the other”, he said.
To Article Wan, the genre of music a musician does to make money is of no importance so far as the people love it. Citing Nacee's latest song, Boys Boys featuring Guru as an example, Article Wan said it is okay for Nacee to do secular music if that is what will put food on his table.
According to him, he would have done same if he was in Nacee's shoes. “I don't see why anyone should have a problem with Nacee doing a secular song if that is what will make him earn some money. The song is nice and everyone is jamming to it now,” he added.
About his music career, Article Wan whose song Solo got him two nominations at the recently held Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) is out with two singles Fire Burn Dem and Toowa. “ I am very happy with the response the two singles are getting since they were released a few days ago.”
What most people don't know about Article Wan is he produces his own beat.
“I have five singles currently and I produced all the beat including Solo,” he revealed.
Asked if he had to choose between being a sound engineer and a musician, Article Wan said he would choose music because it is his first love.
