Togbi Adzofia V, dufia of Dzodze has called on all citizens of Dzodze both home and abroad to come together to support the annual celebrations of the “De Za” festival in order to pull resources together for the development of the area.
Togbui Adzofia said this in an exclusive interview with ghfestivalstv.com ahead of the 2018 celebration of the festival scheduled for Saturday the 6th of October.
He said Dzodze which is the capital of the Ketu North Municipality is noted for its cultivation of oil palm in commecial quantities hence the institution of the De Za festival 17 years ago to commemorate the usefulness of the plant to the people of Dzodze and Ketu North as a whole
Togbi Adzofia called on government to expedite action on the establishment of an oil palm processing factory in the Ketu North municipality as part of government’s one district one factory (IDIF) Policy in order to create job opportunities for the unemployed youth of the area.
The traditional ruler further called on citizens of the area living in the diaspora to contribute thier quota to the development of the area both in cash and in kind, as according to our ancestors “no one points direction to thier home town with their left hand”
He further called for unity and togetherness among all citizens of Dzodze and for that matter Ketu North as unity they say is strength
In a separate interview, Togbui Dey III, senior divisional chief of Dzodze traditional area and chairman for this years De Za Festivities, also underscore the need for the people of the traditional area to come together to celebrate the festival as a way of remembering their fore fathers for the invention of the cultivation of oil palm in commercial quantities which earned Dzodze a remarkable position as the center of oil palm commercialization in Ghana and West Africa as a whole.
Togbi Dey III intimated that, the traditional area as so far acquired 56 acres of arable land for the cultivation of the crop in other to revamp the industry which he laments is dwindling due to unregulated mechanized methods of land preparation for farming.
He also added his voice to the call for the government to quickly implement its one district one factory(1D1F) policy as the traditional area is fully prepared to lend its support in the provision of the raw material needed to feed the factory which he believes will reduce the high unemployment rate facing the municipality and the country at large Togbi Dey III called on the youth not to look down on farming in search of white collar jobs which are non existent and to embrace oil palm cultivation in commercial quantity which according to him is the surest way to eradicating of poverty and to better their livelihoods
