Swiss Angels Foundation Gives Life to Mafi-Kumase Senior High Technical School
It is said often that “water is life” and it is this life that Swiss Angels Foundation has given to Mafi- Kumase Senior High Technical School in the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region. The school's cry for help to get access to a clean and safe source of water was heard by Swiss Angels Foundation(SAF), an NGO based at Anfoega, the North- Dayi District capital.
Speaking at the commissioning of the project on 13thFebruary, 2019, the Headmaster of the school, Mr Meteku Courage expressed his gratitude to the NGO as he could not hide his joy. He noted that the school had to pay very huge bills for the supply of water. He lamented on how students had to walk for a long distance to fetch water from a dam in town which exposed students to various forms of harm. He described the problem as “a yoke on their back” and thanked the NGO for responding swiftly to their plight and putting a stop to it. He further appealed for help to acquire furniture for students and offices as well as help to put up bungalows for masters to reside on the school compound.
The Country Director of SAF, Mr Daffor Francis acknowledged the school for their cooperation during the drilling of the water. He stated that, his organisation is aimed at making significant change in Ghana hence their commitment to “touching lives.” He noted that his foundation which was started in 2017 has successfully carried out about six projects in various districts of the Volta Region. He revealed the cost of the water project for the school to be above GHȻ 30,000.00 and urged students to handle the facility with care. He expressed his hope that the project will serve its purpose and students will not have to leave campus in search of water. He assured the school of SAF's continuous support. “We shall do our best to help with the supply of some furniture to the students. Just pray.” He said. He left the students with a piece of advice to study and become responsible people who would help build Ghana.
An elated P.T.A chairman, Mr Thompson Fiawornu offered his heartfelt gratitude to the foundation and assured that the entire P.T.A will never forget the gesture but will ensure that there is proper maintenance of the water system.
Mr Reuben Akuffo who represented the DCE of Central Tongu thanked the NGO for helping the school to meet the sustainable development goal 6. He asked the students to eschew laziness and study hard since they now have a good source of water on the compound and cannot use the shortage of water as an excuse. He finally urged other development partners and NGOs to emulate the gesture of Swiss Angels Foundation.
The water project is a mechanized borehole which pumps underground water into a storage tank and distributed through water pipes for use in the school. The project was fully funded by Swiss Angels Foundation, an NGO which was founded by Angelo Margassio and Francis Daffor in 2017.
