The Executive Director of Human Rights Reporters Ghana(HRRG), Joseph Kobla Wemakor has charged parents and guardians to desist from the habit of sending their children out of home on night errands so as to protect them from falling victims to kidnappers.
.
He equally admonished them to endeavor to give the best of care and attention to their wards in order to foster good relationship between so they can feel at home and confide in them whenever they have issues with people outside the home.
.
Mr. Wemakor gave the advice while speaking at the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) meeting held at the premises of M and Bee School, located at Lapaz, Nii Boi Town in Accra on Sunday May, 26.
The meeting was organized by the school to discuss some pertinent issues the school is faced with the aim of finding an amicable solution to them.
,
Interacting with the group of parents and teacher at the meeting, Mr. Wemakor first introduced the
Human Rights Reporters Ghana and its activities to the members of the association and went ahead to explain the intent to have the school rolled under its ongoing nationwide sensitization on kidnapping campaign project which the group is championing.
.
Although the purpose for inviting the Human Rights Group was to brief parents, guardians as well as teachers on the need to conduct sensitization on Kidnapping, Teenage pregnancy and Tramadol abuse in the school(KTT) and have students and pupils vigorously educated, the parents could not afford to lose sight of the presence of the HRRG team without hearing anything from them on the kidnapping phenomenon which tops the list of the most sensitive issues Ghanaians are battling with in recent times.
.
.
The reason given by most of them due to their action was that since kidnappers are no respecters of persons, they are equally at risk to get abducted therefore deserve to have the fair share of the kidnapping sensitization cake just like the students to guide themselves.
.
The HRRG team led by Joseph Kobla Wemakor (Executive Director) deployed to the meeting did not hesitate at all to do the needful, thereby quickly swing into action to have the participants vigorously sensitized on the tricks of kidnappers upon hearing their plea.
.
At the end both parents and teachers had the opportunity to interact with the team where ideas were exchanged and knowledge was impacted on the modus operandi of the so-called ‘miscreants’ referred to as kidnappers.
.
.
The participants were not only sensitized on kidnapping but also served with useful tips to guide themselves and their children to avoid falling a victim to the ploy of kidnappers.
.
The brief but intensive session which lasted almost close to an hour saw a lot of questions asked and answers were provided to the satisfaction of the participants.
,
For his part, the Director of M and Bee School, Mr. Joejo Barnes expressed profound delight in the activities of the
Human Rights Reporters Ghana and for having the team paid visit to the school during its PTA meeting to impact knowledge to parents and teachers on the thorny kidnapping issue.
.
He assured the team of the school’s plan to allocate a period of time on its calendar so they can come in and impart knowledge to the students on the three (3) critical human rights and social issues; kidnapping, teenage pregnancy and tramadol abuse affecting the development of the youth in the country in recent times.
