Top 10 Record Labels in Ghana; The debate as to whether artistes make record labels or record labels makes artistes is not something that’s going away anytime soon.

Most people are of the view that the success and how powerful a record label becomes is highly dependent on the kind of artistes they sign and the individual successes of the artiste on the label.

Record Labels do play crucial roles in the lives of an artistes’ career.

A record label, or record company according to Wikipedia, is a brand or trademark associated with the marketing of music recordings and music videos.

Sometimes, a record label is also a publishing company that manages such brands and trademarks, coordinates the production, manufacture, distribution, marketing, promotion, and enforcement of copyright for sound recordings and music videos, while also conducting talent scouting and development of new artists (“artists and repertoire” or “A&R”), and maintaining contracts with recording artists and their managers.

1. Lynx Entertainment

Lynx Entertainment, a Record Label founded by Richie Mensah in 2006 has constantly maintained a fine form.

Their record stands out right from the days of rapper “Asem”, “Mzvee”, “KiDi”, “Kuami Eugene”

It seems any artiste who joins the Lynx family automatically produces hit back-to-back.

They are undoubtedly the most powerful and relevant label currently in Ghana. They have some of the top A-List artistes in Ghana signed onto their label.

The biggest success of the record label was making Ebony the artiste she was before her demise. Ebony happens to be the only female in the books of Ghana to have won the VGMA Artiste of the Year.

The label has produced hits like Coupe, Maame Hw3, Uber Driver, Bedroom Commando, and many more. Wendy Shay is now the lead act on the label and their latest discovery Fantana is an instant A-List artiste.

3. GroundUp Chale

Ground Up Chale is magical. The Tema-based Record Label rose from the ‘Undergrounds’ to attain a BET recognition in the international front with their artiste, Kwesi Arthur.

5. AMG Business:

A group known to be a solid vibrant cash gang headed by the boss himself – Chris Waddle. The most active artiste on the label currently is the 2019 VGMA Rapper of the year award winner – Medikal. Medikal can boast of a good number of hit songs to his name and undoubtedly the best rapper currently in Ghana.

7. Shatta Movement Record Label

Charles Nii Armah Mensah aka Shatta Wale’s SM Record Label is a hot cake.

Many argue that he hasn’t signed artistes that have got ‘mad’ talents on to make it a big brand since it’s set up.

Notwithstanding, the name Shatta Wale is big enough to blow talents signed on the label.

Natty Lee, Captan and Joint 77 are the 3 signees on the Shatta Movement Music Label.

8. Black Avenue Muzik (BAM)

D-Black is a man who needs to be commended for using his Black Avenue Muzik (BAM) to push a lot of talents.

Despite not being able to completely run things as compared to the previously mentioned labels, Black Avenue’s name cannot be written off in terms of good labels in Ghana.

Dahlin Gage (Afrobeats, Dancehall, Hiphop), Kobla Jnr (Afrobeats), Nina Ricchie (Pop, Afrobeats), Osayo (RNB, Afrobeats), S3fa (Soul, Afrobeats, RNB), Rony Turn Me Up (Music Producer) and Dj Breezy are some few talents on his label currently.

9. Sarkcess Music:

The king of rap Sarkodie, is the founder and leader of the Sarkcess music label. The achievements and influence of Sarkodie on the Ghana music scene can never be underestimated. He was awarded the best artiste over the last decade at the recently held VGMAs.

Akwaboah is also on the Sarkcess Music label but the next big name in Ghana rap Strongman recently parted ways with the label after a two-year contract with them was due.

10. NKZ Music

NKZ Music owned by Nana Yaw Adjei Yeboah Maradona popularly known in showbiz as GURU is also one of the most hardworking and amazing record label in Ghana.

King Paluta, Wutah (no more with the label) are some few talents Guru have pushed among others.
