According to Ghanaian artiste S3fa, South Africans view Davido as a “regular” musician, but in Ghana, he is hailed with such happiness and ecstasy.
In an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra100.5FM’s mid-morning show Ayekoo Ayekoo on Thursday, September 30, 2021, the vocally skilled female afrobeat artiste said that while in South Africa recently, she had the opportunity to perform at a show where Davido also performed and was “surprised” at the “normal” response the Nigerian artiste received from the crowd in comparison to the euphoria that comes with his rap music.
“Davido and Focalistic had a performance in South Africa where I also performed,” Sefa explained.
“South Africans are more into amapiano, therefore they played amapiano songs throughout; there were no Ghanaian or Nigerian music,” she explained.
“And do you want to know what’s the most shocking part? The unexpected aspect is that even when Davido walked on stage, people were chanting and dancing, but not with the ecstasy you would expect from his Ghanaian fans when he performs.”
“In South Africa, he had a regular welcome without the excitement. She told Nana Romeo, “That’s the funny thing.”
“South Africans truly enjoy their music – amapiano,” she remarked. They treat it as if it were the World Cup.”
