The Kanehsie District Court has remanded Benson Nana Yaw Oduro Boateng aka Funny Face into police custody after he reportedly threatened to kill his ex-wife and girlfriend and commit suicide on Instagram.
The court, presided over by Oheneba Kuffour, ordered that Benson nicknamed Funny Face undergo a mental evaluation at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.
He should also go to the Police Hospital for a substance addiction evaluation.
It advised Funny Face, who is 40 years old, to abstain from using social media for a month.
The Court has reserved the plea of Funny Face, a comedian charged with threatening death.
The facts of the case, on the other hand, were read aloud in open court.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sylvester Asare, who is prosecuting the case, asked the court not to accept his plea.
According to ASP Asare, the accused may be suffering from psychiatric difficulties, thus accepting his plea would be unfair.
He further requested that the accused be transferred for a mental evaluation to any of the Accra or Pantang psychiatric hospitals, at the Court’s discretion.
Without legal representation, Funny Face stated that he would like to be committed to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.
The defendant stated in court that he did not want to return to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital rehabilitation center because the prisoners were too harsh on him.
He told the court that he didn’t threaten his ex-wife Lizzy since he didn’t know who she was.
Funny Face said that his girlfriend Vanessa knew he couldn’t kill her because he wasn’t taking his medicine and that he went beyond since he wasn’t taking his medication.
His relapse, he believed, may have been caused by a “wee” toffee given to him by a friend.
