Eugene Kwame Marfo, popularly known as Kuami Eugene, the Ghanaian Afro-Highlife musician, has stated that an artist may be recognized internationally even if he does not collaborate with an international artist.

During the Dryve of Your Life Show on YFM 107.9, he reminded presenter Kojo Manuel that partnering with an international artist does not guarantee your recognition in the worldwide market.

He used CKay, a Nigerian musician, as an example. He said that CKay had one of the most popular songs in the world, but that it featured only himself and Joe Boy, a Nigerian.

“It’s not about adding foreign singers on your song if you want to break into the worldwide market.” Maybe you’ve seen Wizkid and Justin Bieber, and that’s why you have this impression. CKay, on the other hand, has demonstrated that you don’t need a worldwide artist.”

“We didn’t have any foreign talent, only three local lads in Africa when we recorded ‘Love Nwantiti,’ and now the song is worldwide and charting on Billboard charts.”

“I think what’s crucial is the link to the world market and the forces, and I keep emphasizing forces because the last time Ghana rose, it was because we had a lot of forces working for us.” “Anytime you see something from Ghana up there, it’s because of a communal effort,” he explained.
