“I Knew ‘Essence Will Blow Because It Came From My Heart” – Wizkid
Wizkid, the Nigerian artist and probably the biggest African artiste as of now, has spoken out about his blockbuster hit track ‘Essence,' which features Tems, a fast-rising vocalist.
The song, which has charted all over the world and received a Grammy nomination, catapulted the singer's career to new heights.
During an interview with Apple Music discussing the previous 12 months and receiving their ‘Artist of the Year' accolade, the Starboy mentioned the track.
Wizkid claims he knew the song would be a massive success the moment it was recorded.
When the song was created, Wizkid explained, his team was thinking about a commercially viable smash.
“The crazy thing is, the same night we recorded “Essence,” I recorded “Gyrate.” So every now and again, I'd make two or three bangers in a night. I get up and get to work. This is something I handle as if it were school. I get out of bed in the morning. I'm thinking to myself, “Yeah, I did very good yesterday.” Let's get started. So, what are we up to today? Do you get what I'm saying? Without a doubt, guy. I had a feeling [“Essence”] would be a hit. I actually tweeted anything the night we produced it. “After we released the record, my fans really reminded me of it,” he said.
“Because I tweeted, ‘Tems and I produced magic,'” she explains. That's what I said on Twitter. Man, I knew it was amazing. For the past ten years, I've been manufacturing this nonsense. Please, don't make me laugh. Do you think I won't know whether we make it? It makes me happy. It's amazing how good it feels. It feels amazing to have a record like that, man. But the most important thing is that we weren't thinking about commercial success or anything like that when we created it. We were simply attempting to create nice music. So I believe that's why people love that record so much, because it truly comes from the heart. He went on to say, “It's all-natural, organic sh**.”
