Robert Asare Bediako and Chairman Wontumi

In his bid to win the New Patriotic Party’s Ashanti Regional Chairmanship, , one of the defeated candidates revealed that he paid $1,000 to each delegate on election day.

Robert Asare Bediako said despite paying the delegates, they still did not vote for him.

The former Asokwa Chairman, who ran for the Ashanti Regional Chairmanship, stated that he would have won the election if his rivals had outbid him.

However, he said his close contenders paid higher monies to win.

He told Kumasi-based Akoma FM that “Whiles I was paying each delegate ¢1,000, I thought I would win but some paid more than me so the delegates also gave in to the highest bidder and it’s very worrying the trend of monetization in our body

politics,”

Over the weekend, the NPP successfully held regional elections around the country.

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, the incumbent Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, has been re-elected to a second term.

To keep his position, he defeated his major competitor, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah.

He easily defeated his opponent, garnering 464 votes against Odeneho Kwaku Appiah’s 306 votes.

This is the third time in a row that I have been elected Regional Chairman.
