Mark Zuckerberg Adds 110 Acres To His $100+ Million, 1,300-Acre Hawaiian Estate
Despite having recently introduced the world to the Metaverse, Mark Zuckerberg appears to have a significant interest in real estate in the actual world.
According to a recent Honolulu Star-Advertiser article, the social media tycoon and software entrepreneur spent a stunning $17 million for the right to expand his massive, sprawling Hawaiian estate by more than 100 acres.
The 110-acre parcel includes a historic sugar plantation reservoir on the island of Kauai that precipitated a deadly flood 16 years ago. Zuckerberg is growing his vast Hawaiian estate by purchasing these 110 acres, which are in addition to the 700 acres he purchased in 2014 for around $100 million and the almost 600 acres he purchased in April of last year for $53 million. In total, that values the Zuckerberg Hawaiian estate at $170 million and over 1400 acres.
Ben LaBolt is a spokesperson for Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan's household. The couple, who have resided in Hawaii for many years, “continue to make their home at Ko'olau Ranch,” he told the Star-Advertiser.
According to LaBolt, Chan and Zuckerberg “intend to expand agricultural, ranching, conservation, and wildlife protection efforts happening with community partners on their 1,300 acres to the newly purchased 110 acres.”
This will entail badly needed repairs to the outdated reservoir, which allegedly hasn't been updated 15 years after the devastating flood of 2006.
The Pflueger family sold the land to Zuckerberg's Kaloko LLC. After weeks of persistent rain in the area, late Pflueger patriarch James Pflueger was adjudicated legally accountable for the poor management that caused the reservoir to flood. He really spent seven months in jail in the years between 2014 and 2015 for the tragedy before passing away in 2017 at the age of 91.
