In a guest appearance on CTV's Class Showbiz on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, Ghanaian musician DJ Azonto highlighted two ways that Ghanaian dancehall great Shatta Wale is an inspiration.
He has been questioned about the circumstances that led to the change from being a disc jockey to a recording artist.
Because I don't really have a decent voice for singing, he said, “I'm even astonished God granted me the voice to make music.”
But after seeing Shatta Wale and a number of other artists, I've realized that music isn't always about a beautiful singing voice.
He saluted, saying, “He's my senior guy,” to make it clear that he doesn't want to insult the head of the Shatta Movement (SM).
I was motivated to realize that I might succeed because of individuals like Shatta Wale. Shatta Wale is an inspiration to many, as you are aware. In his professional life, Shatta Wale has taken the place of the reggae/dancehall superstar. “I always say that if you follow Shatta Wale, the only disadvantage is that you may become [puffed up and] disrespectful, in that he gives you so much inspiration that it becomes obvious that it's simply God at work and no one else,” he said.
