Veteran Ghanaian highlife performer Akwasi Opoku, often known by his stage name Kwaisey Pee, said that his father had intended for him to play football.
Kwaisey Pee is the child of famed highlife musician Agyaaku, the leader of the Yamoah and Sunsum Mystics Band and composer of the legendary hit song “Serwaa Akoto,” which was released many years ago.
In keeping with his fresh appearance, Kwaisey Pee responded to a question in a one-on-one interview with Ekow Koomson on Ghanaweekend TV by saying:
“It's a blessing, and I believe it runs in the family…
Because I play soccer and run a lot, I appear to be quite youthful. I could work for an hour, 20 minutes, or even two hours.
The “Ayele” crooner responded to the question of whether he ever gave up football as a career by saying, “Initially, my father wanted me to be a player, but at some point, he needed someone to fill in for someone to sing a copyright song for his band, thus I came to mind… I took that person's place.”
The seasoned highlife musician went into great detail about how, “Even though my father never liked it,” there was nothing he could do except let me continue in his musical footsteps.
