Laverne & Shirley actress Cindy Williams dies at 75

, an actress best known for her role in the popular 1970s sitcom Laverne & Shirley, has died at the age of 75, her family said. 

Williams had a long show business career, also appearing in movies including George Lucas's 1973 film American Graffiti.

She died peacefully last week after a brief illness, according to the statement from her children. 

Emily and Zak Hudson called their mother “kind and hilarious”. 

Her death “has brought us insurmountable sadness that could never truly be expressed”, they said in a statement on Monday that was shared by family spokesperson Liza Cranis. 

“Knowing and loving her has been our joy and privilege. She was one of a kind, beautiful, generous and possessed a brilliant sense of humour and a glittering spirit that everyone loved.” 

Her two children said their mother was dedicated to rescuing animals, her faith, and making the world laugh. 

In Laverne & Shirley, Williams starred opposite Penny Marshall – who played Laverne DeFazio – as two single working women in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the 1950s. The sitcom ran on ABC from 1976 to 1983.

The show was among the most popular on TV at the time and earned Williams a Golden Globe nomination for best actress in a TV series for her portrayal of the cheerful Shirley Feeney.

Williams was born in the Van Nuys area of Los Angeles, California in 1947. 

She had film and TV credits spanning decades, including appearances in Happy Days as Shirley Feeney and in director Francis Ford Coppola's 1974 movie The Conversation.

Grammy-winning British singer Ed Sheeran has revealed that Barbadian superstar, was the inspiration behind his hit song, ‘Shape Of You.'

He disclosed this in a recent interview with Hits Radio.

Pete Davidson explains why he’s done with ‘Bupkis’

Despite being renewed for a second season, “Bupkis” will not be returning to Peacock.

The semi-autobiographical comedy from former “Saturday Night Live” cast member is coming to an end, he confirmed in a statement to Variety.

“I've always seen Bupkis as a window into my life, since it is so personal and about my struggles and family,” Davidson said. “After nearly a decade of my personal life being in the media I wanted a chance to tell my story my way. Of all the work I've ever done, Bupkis is by far what I'm most proud of.”

Davidson also expressed his gratitude “to Lorne Michaels and Broadway Video, Peacock, Universal Television and the amazing cast and writers for helping me create something honest, funny and heartfelt.”

“I do also feel that this part of my life is finished,” Davidson continued. “I'm very excited for this next chapter and for you guys to see the work. Thank you to all who support me for I am forever grateful.”

CNN has reached out to representatives for Davidson.

The series in which Davidson played a fictionalized version of himself premiered last May on the Peacock streaming service and costarred Edie Falco and Joe Pesci.

Davidson also played a version of himself in the Peacock film “The King of Staten Island.”

Sophie's stepfather wrote on the funding page, “On behalf of her Mother & Family, It is with a heavy heart that I have to share the news of our beloved Sophia's Passing. The Sudden loss of Sophia has left her family and friends devastated and in shock.”
