Hiplife Is Dead Because People Refused To Accept The Genre Was Evolving – M.anifest

Rapper Kwame Ametepee Tsikata, better known as M.anifest, claims that hip-life is dead since young people are no longer interested in it.

Additionally, he contends that the gatekeepers did not change with the times and the sound.

The rapper made this statement in a brand-new BBC documentary called “Hiplife Rewind” that was uploaded on their YouTube channel on February 6, 2023.

“Hiplife is dead because the younger people, who are the source of the music, do not identify with Hiplife,” he shifted in his seat and sat up.

The entrepreneur and artist claimed that hip-life tastemakers also had a part in its demise since they were at one point too sophisticated to understand and take part in the development of music in West Africa.

He said, “The originators of hip-life were a little too precious about what it should be, so as new versions sonically were happening, you could hear people saying, “Oh, this Jama, this Azonto, is watered down, it's not real,” adding that by insisting on the “idea of real,” these industry powers failed to recognize that “you have to evolve or perish, and that is what any music form has to understand.”
