The well-known friend of Christian Atsu, Mubarak Wakaso, has described his final discussion with the late Black Stars teammate Christian Atsu before his death.

On February 6, 2023, a massive earthquake caused regions of Turkey to experience Atsu's death. After his body was pulled from the ruins on February 18, he was pronounced dead.

Wakaso discussed his phone call with Atsu on Sunday night following the latter's final game in an interview with Peace FM.

In the encounter between Hataysport and Kasimpasa, Atsu participated and scored the game's lone goal with the last kick. Wakaso claims that he called Atsu as soon as the winger posted recordings of the goal online.

Wakaso claims that he called Atsu right away following the winger's posting of recordings of the goal on social media.

He went on to say that during their talk, he made fun of Atsu for creating noise on social media because he scored a “not so amazing goal.”

“I told him to stop making noise over that ‘allo' goal and he laughed over it. We talked for a while before he told me he was going to call back. That callback would have taken two to three days to happen but the unfortunate thing happened the next day,” he said.
