If You Want to See Where Ghana Is Going, Let’s Look At The Young People – Kafui Dey
Speaking on Rainbow Entertainment on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm with host Daniel Dadson, Ghanaian journalist Kafui Dey, who was talking about the direction of the new music scene, revealed that we have come to the time where Ghanaian musicians don't talk about climate change anymore and all they sing about now is money and whine your waist.
He acknowledged having puzzled over why songwriters aren't motivated to create songs that promote social awareness of injustice and other problems.
He claimed that the media we consume shapes the way we think and that other nations have restrictive immigration laws, whereas Ghana has such liberal ones.
He argued that we should observe the current generation of young people and how they behave if we want to understand the direction the nation is taking.
“Look at our youth to get a sense of where Ghana is headed.” Ghana is moving in that direction. Ghana is moving in that direction, if you observe the youth.
“I don't hear musicians sing about the devastation of our environment the way the Rastafarians do,” Kafui Dey added. Reggae musicians frequently sing about conscious topics. There are other things to talk about except your waist or let's make love. The reggae community talks about justice and equal rights. I'd like to hear our artists play with more awareness. “It shouldn't always revolve around se.x and cash.”
