Black Sherif Does Highlife, He’s Just Selling It As Hiphop – Akwaboah

Ghanaian highlife musician believes that Black Sherif leans closer toward the highlife genre than hip-hop, a few days after Kwabena Kwabena expressed his disgust with individuals who call the singer's songs hip-hop.

If Black Sherif's highlife-influenced songs were actually classified as highlife, highlife music would gain greater respect, according to in a conversation with Kojo Yankson and Winston Amoah on the Super Morning Show on Joy FM.

“When you listen to the way Black Sherif sings and everything, I would categorize the majority of his songs as highlife, but he has been forced into hip-hop. Imagine naming what he is producing highlife, which would have put highlife on the map. Yet, it seems as though we are driving him toward hip-hop or Afrobeats instead.”

“So now he is performing, but the genre is being referred to as hip-hop or Afrobeats, he added.
