He was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the eighth round of the 1976 NFL Draft and played that season with the team. Following his time with the Packers, he played in the Canadian Football League with the Montreal Alouettes, the Calgary Stampeders, and the Ottawa Rough Riders.

His last coaching position was as defensive coordinator for Ohio University from 2005 until his retirement after the 2018 season. At the time of his retirement, he had been one of the longest-tenured coordinators in Division I football. He was associate head coach from 2017 until his retirement. His mother Robin Burrow is the principal of Eastern Elementary School in Appalachian Meigs County, Ohio. Prior to her career in education, she reportedly worked in the fashion industry for about 12 years.
