Prince Mateen, born on August 10, 1991, is a member of the royal family of Brunei. He is the tenth child and fourth son of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei, by his former second wife, Puan Hajah Mariam binti Haji Abdul Aziz. Abdul Mateen ibni Hassanal Bolkiah is the fourth son of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei. Born on 10 August 1991, hence Prince Mateen is 31 years old. He received his primary education at the St. Andrew’s School in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei.
He continued his secondary education at the Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College and Jerudong International School, both of which are the top schools in Brunei.
In July 2014, Prince Mateen received his Bachelor of Arts degree in international politics from King’s College London at the Barbican Centre in London. In July 2016, Prince Mateen was awarded a Master of Arts degree in international studies and diplomacy from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London
As an exclusive athlete, Prince Mateen competes internationally for Brunei in polo and equestrian contests. He actively promotes conservation initiatives and spreads awareness about protecting natural habitats because he is likewise committed to environmental causes and the conservation of species. His beautiful photography, which frequently depicts breathtaking vistas and wildlife interactions, demonstrates his love of nature.
Prince Mateen began his military career in 2010 and was promoted to Second Lieutenant in 2011. He later became a Substantive Lieutenant and Acting Captain in 2016. He completed a seven-month Elementary Flying Training at RAF Cranwell and qualified as a helicopter pilot in the Defence Helicopter Flying School at RAF Shawbury. In 2019, his father granted him honorary membership in the Special Forces Regiment. In 2021, he was promoted to Major and underwent the All Arms Commando Course in the UK.
In 2018, Brunei and Jordan reaffirmed their alliance, signing memorandums of understanding in infrastructure, tourism, and defense. He attended the 12th Asia-Europe Meeting in Brussels and attended the 35th ASEAN Summit. In 2022, he attended Queen Elizabeth II’s state burial at Westminster Abbey.
In 2023, Prince Mateen visited Naval Special Warfare commands in California and discussed potential cooperation opportunities. He also attended the signing of the marriage contract, the royal solemnization ceremony, and the royal wedding of Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II and Rajwa Khalid Alseif. With his charismatic personality and dedication to making a positive impact, he continues to inspire others.
