Afua Asantewaa Aduonum decided to attempt to break the record for the longest singing marathon by an individual from December 24th to December 27th, 2023.
Ghanaians reacted with mixed emotions, with many wondering why she had chosen to do wit, but as the saying goes, what the mind conceives, the mind achieves.
Ghana is pleased to inform the world that Afua Asantewaa Aduonum has unofficially broken the 105-year-old record set by Sunil in India in 2012.
The task Afua took on was fraught with difficulties, such as GHAMRO’s verification of her songs, song selection, and vocal cracks.
It was also met with a lot of negativity on social media, with people mocking her. Others questioned her abilities and stamina, but she paid no attention to their criticism.
Some of the rules of the sing-a-thon were that she could not repeat a song until after 4 hours, that she could not receive people in her glass cage, and that she could only take a twenty-minute break after 4 hours of non-stop singing, but she could take a five-minute break after an hour.
She broke some of the rules but remained firm in her determination to complete the task.
After completing her mission, Afua Aduonum was rendered into tears as she never imagined she could reach such a milestone.
She was also overwhelmed by the support from Ghanaians, notably the vice president, IGP, music and movie stars etc.
