Pete Carroll, a former head coach at the University of the Pacific, played football at the College of Marin before transferring to the University of the Pacific. Carroll was born on September 15, 1951, in San Francisco, California. He earned All-Pacific Coast Athletic Association honors and was inducted into the Pacific Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995.

Pete Carroll worked as a graduate assistant at Pacific and later at the University of Arkansas, Iowa State University, and North Carolina State University. He entered the NFL in 1984 as the defensive backs coach of the Buffalo Bills and worked with various teams. Carroll was fired after one season due to a “clock play” incident. In 2000, he was named the head coach of the USC Trojans and was considered a better fit for college football than the NFL. His teams won two national championships and played for another, breaking school records and home attendance records. Carroll’s goal was to focus on winning the Rose Bowl, not national championships.

He was hired as the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks after Jim L. Mora‘s firing, led the team to a 4-2 start in 2010, and became the first 7-9 team in NFL history to win a division title. In 2012, Carroll led the team to an 11-5 record, including undefeated at home. In 2014, the Seahawks won their first Super Bowl win in franchise history, defeating the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII. The Seahawks finished the regular season 6–0, reaching their second consecutive NFC Championship.

Carroll and the Seahawks named Shane Waldron as offensive coordinator, leading to a successful start for Seattle’s offense. However, the Seahawks struggled in the 2021 season, losing four of their final six games. Despite this, Carroll and general manager John Schneider retained their jobs for the 2022 season. In 2023, Carroll led the Seahawks to a 9-8 record but was eliminated from the playoffs. On January 10, 2024, Carroll stepped down as head coach and will remain with the team as an advisor.
