Actor, writer, and choreographer Osman Khalid Butt is from Pakistan and is well-known for his work in Diyar-E-Dil, Chupke Chupke, and Ehd-e-Wafa. Butt was born in Islamabad, Pakistan, on February 9, 1986. He has won multiple awards, including two Hum Awards and an ARY Film Award. His older sister’s wish to write stories when she was five years old served as an inspiration for him. His sister, Michelle Tania Butt, is the CEO of Kuch Khaas, and his brother, Omar Khalid Butt, is a writer and news anchor.
Osman Khalid Butt began his acting career in 2005, acting in theatre plays in his hometown Islamabad. He made his film debut in 2007 with Zibahkhana, Pakistan’s first zombie horror film. He also wrote, acted, choreographed, and directed his first theatre production under the banner of ‘The Living Picture Productions’. He went on to write direct and act in many successful plays in his hometown.
In 2010, he started making YouTube videos as “The Living Picture Guy” and acted in the film Slackistan, which was banned after being refused a pass by the censor board. In 2012, he starred as Aunn in Aunn Zara and played the role of Wali Suhaib Khan in Diyar-e-Dil. In 2016, he played the role of Harib in Sanam.
Butt is the co-founder, creative lead, and poetry editor of the Desi Writers Lounge, an online writers’ workshop, and community that showcases new voices in South Asian writing through their biannual publication, ‘Papercuts’. He has written screenplays for the supernatural horror film Siyaah and the commercially successful romantic comedy film Janaan. He also directed the choreography for the Hareem Farooq-produced Parchi (2018) from the song “Billo Hai.”
