“My ‘Pastor’ Father Made Me Hate God” – Spyro
Spyro, the newest afrobeats phenomenon in Nigeria, has been transparent about his spirituality.
In a recent podcast episode, the musician talked about his childhood and growing up in the Mushin neighborhood of Lagos. He also shared his experience as the son of a preacher, emphasizing that he “hated God” as a result of his father.
“You know how pastors are with their kids, right? My father was quite severe. Because of this, they’re really severe,” he remarked.
Spyro said that he was under a lot of pressure as a child, which made him despise religion.
“I have to admit, the pressure is not good. And yet, even though I was standing directly in front of a Bible, I didn’t even know God through my dad.
I was compelled to read the Bible every morning when we woke up; therefore, I was ignorant of God’s identity. My father actually taught me to despise God and God’s essence,” he continues.
