Borja Iglesias Transfer news: Borja Igelesias loan move to Bayer Leverkusen
Real Betis is seeking a new striker as Borja Iglesias’ move to Bayer Leverkusen nears completion. The 31-year-old will join the Bundesliga leaders until the end of the season, with a deal receiving the “Here we go” treatment from Fabrizio Romano. Iglesias will replace Boniface, who will be out until April.
Betis has been linked with Serdar Azmoun as a replacement for Iglesias, but his current loan club Roma is unwilling to end his time at the club early. Other options are being explored, including Chimy Avila, who has attracted interest from clubs in the Premier League, La Liga, and Greece.
Avila would be a shrewd pickup for Real Betis, as he was touted for a Spain call-up after being on great form at Osasuna. If he can reach those levels again, he would be a very good addition. Real Betis striker Borja Iglesias has announced his intention to step down from the Spanish national soccer team following statements made by Spanish Football Federation president Luis Rubiales and his refusal to resign in the wake of the scandal caused by a non-consensual kiss with midfielder Jenni Hermoso after the victory of the women’s team at the 2023 World Cup.
Borja Iglesias said that he was sad and disappointed and expressed solidarity with his “teammate” Hermoso. Alexia Putellas, two-time Ballon d’Or winner and world champion, also hit out on social networks after Rubiales delivered a widely criticized speech in Las Rozas, calling the situation unacceptable and expressing her support for Hermoso.
