Meschak Elia is a Congolese professional footballer who plays as a forward for the Swiss Super League club Young Boys and the DR Congo national team. He won the best player award after winning the 2016 African Nations Championship. Elia was initially supposed to sign for Belgian club Anderlecht but disappeared and allegedly falsified his birth year, leading to a 12-month ban. In February 2020, FIFA cleared him to play again.
In a significant turn of events in July 2019, Elia was set to make a move to the Belgian First Division A club, Anderlecht.
