I refused painkillers due to fasting – Sonnie Badu opens up on his accident
UK-based internationally acclaimed Ghanaian gospel sensation, Sonnie Badu recently appeared on Day Break Hitz on Hitz FM, where he opened up about a domestic accident he experienced just days before his Rhythms of Africa event in Accra, Ghana.
Recalling the incident where he stumbled on the steps between the garden and the metal railings in his home while cleaning and watering, Badu shared, “I fell down the stairs and split my toes open.” He explained that he was immediately taken to an undisclosed hospital to have the wounds on his legs treated, particularly on his injured toes.
On the day of the concert, Badu said, “I went to the hospital to change the dressing, and I asked the doctor, ‘Will I be able to perform tonight without any complications?’” Given the importance of the event, he was concerned about how the injury might affect his performance.
The gospel artist also mentioned that he had been fasting throughout the week leading up to the major event, which led him to decline the painkillers prescribed by the doctor. “I told the doctor I wasn’t going to take any painkillers because I was fasting,” Badu revealed.
Despite his injury, Badu attended the concert with his stitches still intact. “The stitches came undone while I was dancing,” he admitted, adding that the pain was intense but his dedication to the fans and his craft drove him to push through.
In a startling revelation, Badu disclosed that he had to undergo the amputation of two toes due to the accident. He emphasized, “I had the surgery just five days before the concert, but there was no way I could cancel it.” His commitment stemmed from the significant investments made and the many fans who traveled from around the world to see him perform.
