John Mahama Reduces Number Of Ministries From 30 to 23

President John Dramani Mahama has declared that there will be 23 government ministries instead of the current 30.

In an Executive Instrument released on January 9 2025, this decision was made as part of a larger plan to lower the cost of government operations and enhance the delivery of public services.

President Mahama pledged during his election campaign to cut the number of ministries and guarantee a more targeted and results-driven government and this announcement is consistent with that pledge.

Mahama had earlier promised to run the government with fewer ministries with the goal of keeping it to 60 ministries to promote improved accountability cost-effectiveness and expedited decision-making.

The action fits into a larger plan to reorganize the nation’s governing frameworks and raise the general efficacy of the public sector.
