In an interview with Class TV, the legendary rapper from Ghana, Reggie Rockstone, also known as Reginald Yaw Asante Ossei, discussed his views on monogamy in African culture.
According to the Hiplife Grandpapa, a guy only having one woman is an alien thought that is not in line with African customs.
Through Christianization and Westernization, he contended, the idea of monogamy was thrust onto Africans.
“I could assure you that it is not African. We appear to be exempt from it. We’ve been so Westernized and Christianized lately. However, I firmly feel that it isn’t in line with our culture. It was forced upon us, after all,” he remarked.
Known for being a one-woman guy, Rockstone ascribed his monogamous behavior to his personality rather than societal norms. He clarified that he values his mental health and that keeping up several relationships would be too taxing.
“My personality is the reason I’m a one-woman guy. I’m having too much of a headache, you know.” I enjoy having peace of mind,” he continued.
