On January 4, 2025, parliamentary proceedings took a striking turn when a Member of Parliament from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) made a very contentious comment aimed at Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the MP representing Korle-Klottey.
The room erupted into disorder when a voice from the Minority section was heard calling out,
“Daughter of a murderer, sit down! Daughter of a murderer, sit down!“, is a statement aimed at Dr.-Zanetor Rawlings.
The eruption happened amid talks regarding the 60th anniversary of statesman Joseph Boakye Danquah’s passing.
The discussion intensified when Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, MP for Tamale Central, challenged the accolades being bestowed upon JB Danquah by the Minority.
This resulted in a series of strained discussions, causing Speaker Andrew Asiamah to step in, stating that only parliamentary leaders would be permitted to add more comments.
Another MP was even heard adding, “But there is evidence that her father killed people.”
At that time, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings was standing, requesting to be allowed to speak, but the Speaker granted the floor to Minority Leader Afenyo-Markin instead.
As he started his speech, MPs kept interrupting, and that was when the inappropriate remark was said.
