An image of Chairman Wontumi, who serves as the head of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, has incited considerable outrage on social media.
This particular photograph, taken in Croydon, South London, depicts Wontumi, clad in a winter coat, seemingly in high spirits as he embarks on a tour of the UK to unwind after a demanding campaign season.
Although the NPP, which was then the ruling party, pledged to ‘break the 8’ in the upcoming 2024 elections, Wontumi specifically asserted that their candidate, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, would undoubtedly become the next President of Ghana.
However, the NPP ultimately faced defeat during the elections and subsequently, numerous former officials have been observed outside the country.
This situation raises questions about the party’s future and its leadership dynamics.
Ghanaians, however, were not particularly pleased to discover that Wontumi had departed the country for a vacation.
They criticized him because he was associated with a party that, by many accounts, destroyed the Ghanaian economy.
Although some supported his choice, the sentiment among the populace was largely negative.
“Kwas*a you destroy your own land and steal from your own people and you go outside there to spend the money,” one angry netizen wrote.
Another said: “I pray they deport him ……… after spoiling our economy they run to oyibo land to enjoy !!🤦🏾♂️”
