He was forced to spend every night on a friend's veranda since he had nowhere else to go, stay, or even call home. This was true even on chilly, wet nights.

Before getting his big break, he began putting up the instruments, playing the piano and drums, and singing while working in the church's production department.

At Zongo Junction, I used to spend the night on a veranda. When it starts to stop raining or blowing, I stand there and wait, clean the floor, and then I go back to bed.

“I kept all my cosmetics and personal care items on a dressing table I made out of an old chocolate drink machine.”
