Qualification Required & Experience

• A bachelor's degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in economics or related subject matter (such as finance, business administration, development economics, or commerce).

• Minimum of 8 years of experience working as an economist, at least 5 of which should be in Ghana.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a technical capacity in economic policy or economic analysis/forecasting for government, a bilateral or multilateral development institution, or civil society organization.

• Demonstrated experience providing evidence-based economic advice.

What to study to become an economist?

In order to become an Economist, you will have to obtain, at minimum, an undergraduate degree (3 years) majoring in economics, as well as an honours degree in economics (1 year).

An Economics major can be done as part of a Bachelor of Social Science degree, a Bachelor of Commerce degree, or a Business Science degree.

How do I start my career as an economist?

Age Criteria: The candidate should be between the age of 21-30 years.

Eligibility Criteria: Most of the renowned and multinational banks/ companies require a Ph.D. degree in economics. Some MNCs also ask for an internship and a few years of professional experience in the respective field of economics.

We recommend that Economics majors take math at least through a multivariable calculus course.
