Le Havre's defender, Mendy, began his career with the reserve team in 2010, and was promoted to the first team in 2013. He then joined Marseille and later played for Les Olympiens before moving to Monaco, where he won the national championship in 2016-17.

In 2017, he moved to Manchester City for a record £52 million transfer fee, winning the Premier League in his first season. In 2021, he was arrested on sexual offences and suspended by City. In 2023, he was acquitted of all charges and released by Manchester City. Mendy joined Lorient in June 2023.
