 He started playing basketball at a young age and quickly emerged as one of the top players in his class. In high school, Durant was also a consensus All-American and was ranked as the second-best high school senior in the nation by ESPN. After high school, Durant also played one season of college basketball at the University of Texas. He led the Longhorns to the NCAA Tournament and was named the Consensus National College Player of the Year.

In 2019, Kevin Durant signed with the Brooklyn Nets after the July moratorium ended. He did not appear in the 2019-20 season and later revealed he would be sitting out the entire season due to an injury. He returned to the court in 2020 and scored a season-high 42 points in a 122-115 win over the Orlando Magic. In 2021, he signed a four-year, $198 million extension with the Nets. Durant recorded his thirteenth career triple-double and first as a Net with 29 points, 15 rebounds, and 12 assists. In 2022, he became the 23rd player in NBA history to reach 25,000 points.

Durant scored a season-high 53 points and set a career-high for field goal attempts with 37, grabbed 6 rebounds, delivered 9 assists, and 2 steals in a 110-107 win over the New York Knicks. In 2023, Durant requested a trade from the Nets, but rescinded his request after meeting with Nets management. He scored at least 25 points in each of the first seven games of the season, becoming just the 19th player all-time to reach 26,000 career points.
