White was one of 60 prospects invited to the 2017 NBA Draft Combine. He was one of 15 top-150 prospects in high school and did not sign with Division I programs out of high school. He was drafted by the San Antonio Spurs with the 29th pick and made his NBA debut in October 2017.

In his early years with the Spurs, White showed great potential as a scorer and playmaker. He has a smooth shooting stroke and is known for his ability to create his own shot.
