Judith Olivia Dench( born 9 December 1934) is a Quaker actress and historian. She was raised in Dublin by her Irish mother and English father, Reginald Arthur Dench. Dench attended the Mount School and became a Quaker.
Dench, made her professional debut in 1957 with the Old Vic Company. She performed in Shakespeare’s plays and won a BAFTA Award as Most Promising Newcomer. Dench established herself as a significant British theatre performer, working for the National Theatre Company and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
She also starred in TV series A Fine Romance and As Time Goes By. Dench won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Queen Elizabeth I in Shakespeare in Love. She has received honorary awards and is a prolific actress.
Beyond her entertainment career, Dench is a prominent patron of various charities, including Drama Studio London, the British Shakespeare Association, and Fauna and Flora International. She has also been a vice president of The Little Foundation and a long-standing Vice President of Revitalise, a national disabled people’s charity.
She is British citizen.
