Irish singer, songwriter, and campaigner Sinéad O’Connor was born in Dublin on December 8, 1966. She was given the name Bernadette in remembrance of Saint Bernadette of Lourdes and Sinéad de Valera, the mother of the physician who delivered her. O’Connor went to the Sion Hill school at Dominican College in Blackrock, County Dublin.

The Lion and the Cobra, her 1987 debut studio album, peaked at number one on several worldwide charts. Her greatest commercial success came from her 1990 album, I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got, which sold more than seven million copies globally. At the Billboard Music Awards, her lead hit, “Nothing Compares 2 U,” was recognized as the year’s top global single.

O’Connor’s career included songs for films, collaborations with artists, and appearances at charity fundraising concerts. Her memoir, Rememberings, was released in 2021 and became a bestseller. She drew attention to issues such as child abuse, human rights, racism, organized religion, and women’s rights.

In 1992, she tore up a photograph of Pope John Paul II to protest against abuse in the Catholic Church. Throughout her musical career, she openly discussed her spiritual journey, activism, socio-political viewpoints, and experiences with trauma and mental health struggles.

 No, Renowned Irish singer Sinead O’Connor passed dead on July 26, 2023, at the age of 56. She was recognized for her hit song Am I Not Your Girl?  In January 2024, her death from natural causes was formally declared. In March, news of a memorial show honoring O’Connor and Shane MacGowan of The Pogues was released in New York City.

Michael D. Higgins, the president of Ireland, attended a private burial at Bray, County Wicklow. Social media was flooded with tributes from celebrities including Toni Collette, Janelle Monáe, Patton Oswalt, Jamie Lee Curtis, Tori Amos, Bear McCreary, Massive Attack, Public Enemy, Amanda Palmer, and Janelle Monáe. Morrissey criticized the reaction from executives and celebrities.
