Born on December 21, 1989, Kouyaté began his football career in 1996 with ASC Yego Dakar. He was scouted by RWDM Brussels in 2006 and signed a youth contract. He moved to Anderlecht at 19, making 206 appearances and winning the Belgian First Division A four times. In 2014, he joined West Ham United in the Premier League and transferred to Crystal Palace for £9.5 million.
