Jonnie Irwin

Jonnie Irwin was a multifaceted English individual known for his roles as a television presenter, writer, lecturer, and expert in business and property matters. His notable contributions include hosting the Channel 4 lifestyle program “A Place In The Sun” from 2004 to 2021 and the BBC daytime program “Escape to the Country” from 2010 to 2023.

In 2004, Irwin, alongside co-presenter Jasmine Harman, was chosen to host Channel 4's “A Place in the Sun – Home or Away.” The show, over 200 episodes across Britain, aired on various channels globally. Despite his dedication, Irwin faced a setback in 2022, alleging that he was removed as the presenter after 18 years due to a cancer diagnosis.

Irwin extended his television presence to BBC property shows like “Escape to the Country” and “To Buy or Not to Buy.” Additionally, he presented the spin-off series “Escape to the Perfect Town.” In 2011, he launched his show, “Dream Lives for Sale,” on Sky 1, focusing on helping individuals transition from the UK to buy a business. Later, in 2011, he initiated “The Renovation Game” on Channel 4.

Beyond television, Irwin provided advisory services in business and property, managing a consultancy that catered to diverse clients. He also contributed regularly to A Place in the Sun magazine and shared property insights at events like A Place in the Sun Live. Known for his sportsmanship, Irwin played rugby for Lutterworth RFC and Rugby Lions RFC until a back injury led to his retirement.

In his personal life, Irwin married Jessica Holmes in September 2016, and the couple had three sons. The family resided in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, in 2018, later relocating to the Newcastle upon Tyne area. Jonathan James Irwin's legacy encompasses his diverse professional contributions and his commitment to family life.

Jonathan Irwin revealed in November 2022 that he received a fatal lung cancer diagnosis in 2020. He stressed having an optimistic outlook and referred to his condition as “living with cancer” rather than being overcome by it, even though it was unclear how much time he had left. Irwin prioritized spending time with his family over making conventional bucket lists and setting clear, attainable goals. Irwin tragically died on February 2, 2024, at the age of fifty.
