“Government Should Honor My Wife” – Afua Asantewaa’s Husband Pleads
In an effort to honor his wife, Kofi Aduonum, the husband of Afua Asantewaa, has asked the state to rename a portion of Akwaaba Village, the site of her unsuccessful Sing-A-Thon effort.
It was only fitting, he said, that something be done in honor of his wife, who has been instrumental in advancing Ghana.
“While I believe Asantewaa, my wife, deserves recognition, Akwaaba Village is a fitting name. Somewhere like Asantewaa’s stage or corner might be a good place for them to give her some room.
With the attention that the historic event had garnered internationally, he was hopeful that others would come to the location to learn more.
It will function as a tourist attraction. Those who saw it on television will go there and know where the woman performed whenever they visit Accra. Although it is a personal request, I think it needs to be taken into account.
This appeal was filed in response to the Guinness World Records announcement that Afua Asantewaa‘s effort to break the record for the longest singing marathon by an individual was unsuccessful.
