Andy Yiadom, a defender for the , has stated that Ghana was fortunate to be handed a soft penalty, which helped them qualify for the tournament against the .

Ghana defender Andy Yiadom believes South Africa was unlucky to concede a cheap penalty against the Black Stars in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers last weekend.

After watching videos of the penalty awarded to Ghana after Daniel Amartey was taken down, the Reading full-back believes it may have been overlooked.
“It looked like a penalty while I was on the field, but after seeing it back, it looks like it could have been a little bit soft,” Yiadom told World Football on the BBC World Service.

“But it's football, and I've had them called against me numerous times, so it's one of those things, and it was all about scoring the penalty, which we did.

“I was the one who had just touched him, and the other individual had just collapsed. At the time, all I know is that we won the game.”

South Africa has since filed a protest with Fifa and Caf, claiming that Ghana manipulated Senegalese referee Ndiaye.
Aside from the penalty, Yiadom stated that Milovan Rajevac's return to Ghana after a long absence was a smart decision for the Black Stars.
