Jay-Z fires lyrical shots at Drake, Kanye and others at Roots Picnic
Rapper Jay-Z returned to a headline performance on Saturday with a set at the Roots Picnic in Philadelphia, marking his first solo headlining show in more than five years.
The hip-hop icon delivered a 90-minute performance featuring more than 30 songs, alongside a lengthy freestyle that drew attention for its pointed lyrical references to several figures in the music industry.

Fans express shock over Rihanna’s baby bump a year after welcoming third child
Fans have expressed shock after a recent picture of musician Rihanna in Paris surfaced, showing her in an all-black outfit with hoodie and flats.
The fans couldn’t help but speculate about her figure and what seems to be a baby bump.
The suspected baby bump is appearing just a year after the singer welcomed her third child with her partner, ASAP Rocky.
Together, they already have three children: sons RZA Athelston Mayers, born May 2022, Riot Rose Mayers born August 2023 and daughter Rocki Irish Mayers born September 13, 2025.

You’re going to jail – Cardi B threatens after thieves used her credit card
Famous American rapper, Cardi B, has threatened to jail thieves for going on shopping spree with her American Express card.
The singer in an Instagram livestream, explained that her credit card was stolen from her wallet a few days ago.
Cardi B alleged that the thieves purchased designer clothes of $40,000 at Saks Fifth Avenue and spent another $20,000 in an Apple Store before she froze the card.
While revealing that she doesn’t play with her money, the singer stated that she has obtained clear pictures of the culprits.
“I got clear pictures of you all in Saks and in Apple. One thing about me is that I don’t play with my money.
“You all went to Chase trying to get money out. I got clear pictures of you all in Saks and in the Apple store. You all are going to jail,” she said.

Reading a statement from Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, state TV outlets in Iran confirmed Ayatollah Khamenei’s death at the same time.

At least 20 killed after military plane carrying banknotes crashes in Bolivia
At least 20 people have been killed and others injured after a Bolivian air force cargo plane crashed in the western city of El Alto, the country’s authorities say.
The incident happened at 18:15 local time (22:15 GMT) on Friday as the plane was arriving at El Alto’s airport from the city of Santa Cruz, aviation officials said. It reportedly skidded off the runway and hit nearby vehicles.
The defence ministry later confirmed its C-130 Hercules was involved and that it had been transporting banknotes to the Central Bank of Bolivia. There were eight people aboard the plane, the air force commander said.
Police fired tear gas to disperse crowds allegedly trying to take the scattered banknotes.
Firefighters had given an earlier death toll of at least 15.
Video footage showed the plane on the ground and badly damaged vehicles. In other videos, people could be seen running away from the tear gas and police officers, some holding shields, forming a line. Some in the crowds are seen throwing rocks.
“While news crews were covering the accident, individuals attempting to steal the transported money attacked the press with unusual violence,” the National Association of Journalists of Bolivia said in a statement.
It said a mobile TV unit was “directly targeted”, while other journalists “were attacked with stones, suffering serious injuries while carrying out their work”.
The government-run Bolivian News Agency reported that at least a dozen people were arrested for stealing banknotes.
“I want to make it clear to those who are trying to take money from the plane involved in this tragedy that this money has no legal value since it has not been issued by the Central Bank and does not have a serial number, and that attempting to use this money is a crime,” the Minister of Defence, Marcelo Salinas, said.
“We also ask all those who are engaging in acts of vandalism in this area to refrain from doing so and to respect the mourning and grief we are experiencing at this difficult time.”
Bolivia’s Air Force commander Sergio Lora confirmed there were eight crew members on board the plane “including cargo personnel and flight crew”.
Bolivia’s health ministry said 31 people were injured in the incident. It also issued an urgent appeal for blood donations.
El Alto International Airport was temporarily closed following the crash.
“My sister told me that she was in the car when the plane crashed. The plane’s tire fell on the car, and my sister was injured because the impact of the tire hit her on the head, so we rushed her to the hospital,” a man told the Reuters news agency.
It was not immediately clear what caused the crash, but some witnesses said the weather at the time was treacherous.
“A heavy hailstorm” was falling and “there was lightning” when the plane went down,” a woman whose car was struck by the aircraft wreckage told the AFP news agency.
An investigation into the incident is under way.

Trump’s statement on Iran strikes analysed line by line
In the early hours of Saturday morning, President Donald Trump announced that the US had launched military strikes on Iran.
In an eight-minute video statement posted to social media, he said the US was undertaking a “massive and ongoing operation” to end the Iranian threat and he called for regime change in Tehran.
“It’s a very simple message,” the president said from his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. “They will never have a nuclear weapon.”
The BBC’s State Department correspondent Tom Bateman and Washington correspondent Daniel Bush break down the president’s words line by line to explain how he is justifying the action and assess the risks ahead.
Trump’s basis for strikes
“Our objective is to defend the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime, a vicious group of very hard, terrible people. Its menacing activities directly endanger the United States, our troops, our bases overseas, and our allies throughout the world.”
The key words here are “imminent threats”. The commander-in-chief knows he has to justify why this attack – which does not have formal international backing nor the authorisation of Congress – is happening now.
Trump makes three cases here: that Iran has been an imminent threat to America ever since the Islamic Revolution in 1979; that it is close to developing intercontinental ballistic missiles that could reach the US – a claim which is not supported by US intelligence assessments; and that it is on the verge of developing a nuclear weapon, even though Trump had said these capabilities were “obliterated” after the US strikes last summer.
The reality over the timing is that Trump and Netanyahu view the Iranian leadership as at its weakest point domestically for years with its allied militias in the region decimated after the Gaza war. Tehran’s brutal crushing of this year’s protests started a stopwatch. They believe this is the moment to strike – Tom Bateman.
Time for negotiations over
“We sought repeatedly to make a deal. We tried. They wanted to do it. They didn’t want to do it again. They wanted to do it. They didn’t want to do it.”
Trump’s case here is that the US had no choice but to strike because of a recalcitrant Iranian regime that played Washington’s outreach to negotiate an end to its nuclear programme. He said on the eve of the attack Tehran wouldn’t “give us what we have to have”.
Over recent weeks Trump equivocated over the extent of his demands, at times saying a deal had to include an end to Iran’s conventional missile capabilities, other times suggesting it did not. But his red line converged on the demand for zero nuclear enrichment.
Tehran saw this as a humiliation. Mediated talks between the US and Iran were due to continue next week, with mediator Oman claiming on Friday a breakthrough was within reach with Iran offering no stockpiling of nuclear material. But Trump balked at this.
However, the reality remains it was Trump in his first term who unilaterally pulled the US out of the Obama-led 2015 nuclear deal between world powers and Iran. Trump said the deal was too weak. But Tehran always used this as evidence to claim it was him not them that took the path of violence over negotiations – Tom Bateman.

Belgian-Israeli billionaire Ehud Arye Laniado dies during penis enlargement surgery
A Belgian-Israeli billionaire has died while undergoing penis enlargement surgery, with his company describing him as a “visionary businessman.”
Ehud Arye Laniado, a 65-year old diamond trader, passed away from a heart attack after an unnamed substance was injected into his penis during the procedure, which took place at a private French clinic.
Mr Laniado, who had undergone a number of plastic surgery procedures in the past, was the owner of Omega Diamonds, an Antwerp-based business, and Mercury Diamond, a diamond pricing consultancy. In 2015, he sold the world’s most expensive diamond, the Blue Moon of Josephine, to a Hong Kong billionaire and convicted felon, Joseph Lau Luen Hung.
Mr Laniado had been due to appear on trial in a Belgian Court on March 14, facing tax evasion charges. Two other courts had previously dismissed the tax evasion claim worth billions of euros, which has been brought by the Belgian customs office.
In a statement on the Mercury Diamond website, the business confirmed: “It is with great sadness that we confirm the news that our founder, Ehud Arye Laniado, passed ‎away on Saturday, March 2, 2019. He was 65 years old
“After living an exceptional life Ehud will be brought back home to Israel as his final resting place. ‎He will be dearly missed by us all.”

Why I don’t go to church – Rapper T.I
American rapper Clifford Joseph Harris, Jr., popularly known as T.I, has explained why he does not go to church despite being a Christian.
The Alanta star said he was raised in a Christian household and believes in the “realness” of God, but the church, to him, is a business.
Speaking in a recent interview with Gospel musician Kirk Franklin, T.I accused Christian clergy of “twisting” the Bible and exploiting their congregations.
“I have never been a church person. I grew up in a strong Christian household. My grandma and auntie were very strong in prayer. So, I know how to pray and I know the word. And I know God is real, I’ve seen his presence and his hands in my life. But I have never felt the connection with the church,” he said.
“To be honest, I don’t think the church is real. I think it’s a business. It’s like a show. It’s like public-speaking, like TED talk. And sometimes, the clergies try to twist the word of God to benefit them.”
T.I also said that he doesn’t believe that he needs to pay tithe or make any financial commitment to a church before God could bless him.
“Y’all telling me.. I gotta pay this joker.. for my God to hear my prayer ??? Mehn I’m outta here,” the rapper said.
He added that he doesn’t believe there needs to be a middleman in his relationship with God in the form of a clergy.

The Recording Academy has officially released the full list of nominees for the 2026 GRAMMYS, marking the start of this year’s GRAMMY season and setting the stage for Music’s Biggest Night.

Sean “Diddy” Combs Sentenced to 50 Months in Prison After Emotional Courtroom Hearing
Sean “Diddy” Combs has been sentenced to 50 months in federal prison after being found guilty in July 2025 on two counts under the Mann Act for transporting people to engage in prostitution.
The sentence was handed down on October 3, 2025, by Judge Arun Subramanian in Manhattan federal court.
Diddy will also serve five years of supervised release and pay a $500,000 fine. He will receive credit for the 13 months he has already spent in custody since his arrest in September 2024.
Prosecutors had asked for more than 11 years in prison, citing a pattern of coercion and violence.
The defense requested about 14 months, pointing to his struggles with substance abuse. Judge Subramanian said the evidence required a meaningful consequence despite Combs’s accomplishments.
In court, Combs apologized to those he harmed, including Cassie Ventura and another woman identified as Jane, admitting to abuse and describing his past conduct as “shameful.” His children also appealed for leniency.
Combs was acquitted of racketeering and sex trafficking charges but convicted on the prostitution-related counts.
He will remain at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn and plans to appeal the conviction.

Pioneering Blue Peter editor, Biddy Baxter dies at 92
Long-serving Blue Peter editor Biddy Baxter, who turned the children’s show into a television institution, has died at the age of 92.
Over more than two decades, she introduced generations of children to the pleasures of sticky-backed plastic, on-screen pets, presenters’ adventures and charity appeals – a recipe that stood the test of time.
She was also passionate about getting her viewers involved in the programme, long before audience participation became an industry mantra.
But during her tenure, which lasted from 1965 to 1988, she also gained a reputation as a formidable figure – a tyrant who fell out with presenters and jealously guarded the Blue Peter brand.
‘Absolute powerhouse’
Peter Duncan, who was among the show’s presenters in the 1980s, told BBC Breakfast she was “a wonderful, inspiring person” and “a true force of nature”.
“She was a true enthusiast and a supporter of young people,” he said.
The presenters could get “a right old telling off” if they messed up, but “I loved working with that kind of energy and that kind of expectation”, Duncan said.
“She was truly a one-off within the BBC. If something upset her, she would trail off to see the DG (director general) and tell him what she thought. We need people like that now more than ever.”
Peter Purves, who starred on the show in the 1960s and 70s, described Baxter as “an absolute powerhouse”.
“She controlled everything about the programme, and with quite a rigid hand,” he told BBC Breakfast.
“We didn’t always get on because of that, but she knew exactly what she wanted the programme to be, and it was a success absolutely because of her. She was a remarkable woman.”
Joan Maureen Baxter was born in Leicester in May 1933. There were too many Joans in her class at school, so a nickname was made up on the spot.
Her upbringing during World War Two instilled in Biddy an ability to make do and mend, which later became part of the Blue Peter ethos.
“My friends and I held bring-and-buy sales for the Spitfire fund and put on plays and concerts for the British Red Cross and Aid to France,” she said.
She was educated at a local grammar school before going to St Mary’s College, Durham University in 1952. At that time, only 6% of undergraduates were women.
The experience shaped the rest of her life. “For three memorable years, Durham was my life.”
Baxter had intended to become a prison officer or a social worker. But, by chance, she noticed the BBC was advertising for staff.
She turned down suggestions from a university careers officer that women were best suited to teaching or secretarial work.
“He said to me, ‘No-one from Durham has ever worked for the BBC,’ so I applied. I really should be grateful to him.”
She joined the BBC in 1955 as a radio trainee studio manager, creating sound effects. She was promoted to producing Schools Junior English programmes and Listen with Mother in 1958.
She had a brief spell in children’s television to cover a period of illness and applied for a permanent job soon after. One radio colleague branded her a traitor for defecting to television.
In 1962, she was asked to take over as producer of Blue Peter, a programme whose life expectancy was thought to be short.
Conceived as something for children who had outgrown Watch with Mother, its survival was resting on the fact it was cheap to make.
The programmes, which lasted 15 minutes, were presented by Christopher Trace and a former Miss Great Britain, Leila Williams.
‘Fur more important than flesh’
Williams was fired just before Baxter joined the programme, and a new presenter, Valerie Singleton, was recruited to work with Trace.
Baxter tore into the programme like a whirlwind. Within a year she had introduced the iconic Blue Peter badge after commissioning a young artist called Tony Hart to design the ship logo.
She also decided to recruit a dog, so viewers who did not have a pet could share in a sense of ownership.
Unfortunately, the animal died just two days after its first appearance at Christmas 1962. Baxter and her producer, Edward Barnes, decided not to inform the viewers but instead substituted a sad-looking mongrel they discovered in a south London pet shop.
The audience, innocent of the switch, were asked to come up with a name for the puppy. They chose Petra.
Two years later, when children were asked to write in for a photo of the dog, more than 60,000 applied.
When Petra died in 1977, there were newspaper obituaries worthy of a film star.
“Fur and feather are more important than flesh,” Baxter used to tell presenters.
It was reported that she once threw her handbag at a director who failed to get a close up of Goldie, the programme’s golden retriever.

The latest development adds to the number of aircraft accidents witnessed in the country since the year began. In a similar incident in January this year, three people died while three others were injured after an aircraft crash-landed in the Chocha area of Malindi town.
The aircraft had just taken off from Malindi Airport when it developed mechanical problems. However, attempts by the pilot to land safely proved futile, and the plane crashed.
Among those killed in the crash were a boda boda rider, his passenger, and a pedestrian who was using the Malindi-Mombasa highway.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs to be sentenced on October 3
A federal judge on Tuesday said Sean “Diddy” Combs will be sentenced on October 3 after the music mogul was convicted on charges of transporting prostitutes to engage in drug-fueled sexual performances.
U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian, who oversaw Combs’ trial in Manhattan, approved the date following a request from Combs’ lawyer Marc Agnifilo.
Prosecutors and probation officers agreed to the date.
Combs, 55, remains in the Brooklyn jail where he has been held since his arrest last September, even though jurors cleared him of the most serious charges he faced.
Jurors acquitted Combs on July 2 on sex trafficking and racketeering charges that could have put him behind bars for life. They convicted him on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
The mixed verdict was viewed widely as a disappointment for prosecutors, while Combs and his supporters expressed jubilation.
Prosecutors accused Combs of coercing two former girlfriends, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura and a woman who testified under the pseudonym Jane, into unwanted sex with male sex workers, aided by his employees.
A third woman who testified under the pseudonym Mia told jurors Combs sexually assaulted her multiple times during her employment with him. Combs pleaded not guilty to all five counts he faced.
His lawyers will file their sentencing recommendation by September 19, with prosecutors likely to follow a week later.
Prosecutors have said Combs could face 51 months to 63 months in prison under federal sentencing guidelines, while the defense has said the same guidelines suggested a two-year sentence.
Subramanian is not required to follow the guidelines, and either side may propose different terms. The defense will have until July 30 to ask the judge to set aside Combs’ conviction.
Combs founded Bad Boy Records, and is known for having elevated hip-hop in American culture as he turned artists like Notorious B.I.G. and Usher into stars.
He still faces dozens of civil lawsuits accusing him of abuse. Combs has denied all wrongdoing.
