I Never Wanted To Take The Penalty, I Was Only Telling Asamoah Gyan To… – Stephen Appiah Reveals What He Told Asamoah Gyan During The 2010 Match Against Uruguay
After Ghana's prominent penalty taker at the 2010 World Cup, which was held in South Africa, missed the controversial last-minute penalty that could have qualified the Black Stars for the record semi-final, there were a lot of talks, with some people fabricating stories that Stephen Appiah wanted to kick the penalty but Asamoah Gyan hurriedly took the ball and missed the chance, enraged Stephen Appiah.
It's been ages, but Stephen Appiah, in a recent interview with Nathaniel Attoh, has cleared the air and revealed that he never took the ball or intended to take the penalty, but he was just trying to make some things clear to Gyan.
According to Stephen Appiah, he just wanted Gyan to know that the linesman had moved to the center of the field, indicating that the handball by Suarez was a goal, so there was no need for him to get the ball to the penalty spot even though the ref didn't know the real decision to take after some seconds.
The former Black Stars captain revealed that even in the dressing room, they went on to console Asamoah Gyan because it could have been any other person, including himself, so they couldn't blame Gyan even in the dressing room.
