A Proper Ewe Person Does Not Brag – Ayibge Edem

Ghanaian musician, Ayibge Edem has shared insights into his approach to success and public perception in Ghana’s music industry.

Speaking on Angel FM in Kumasi monitored by Dklassgh.com, he emphasised the importance of humility and focusing on what truly matters beyond fame and fanfare.

“A proper Ewe person does not brag too much about their achievements in the music industry,” Edem said.

He explained that the music business is heavily perception-driven, often shaped by what the artist wants the public to believe.

“The music business is a very perception-driven game, which is usually informed by what the artist wants them to think. An example, during COVID, we had to show love to some of our artist friends, which people perceived to be better than us financially.”

Edem stressed that financial displays and public perception are not the ultimate goal. “At the end of the day, it is not about fans. It is about having better and promising lives to give our children and family better opportunities than we had,” he said.

The musician also highlighted his personal philosophy of separating private life from public conversation. “My goal is that I have conversations only about my music. My life is private, and I focus on what matters,” Edem stated.

He added that outward appearances often do not reflect the reality of artists’ lives. “It is not always what people think it is. Some artists struggle, but in the public eye, they are seen as the best with the most money,” he noted.
