Reggae artiste and broadcaster Blakk Rasta has opened up about his early life in Tamale, describing his childhood in Moshie Zongo as both difficult and memorable.
Speaking in an interview with Kafui Dey, he explained that Moshi Zongo was known as one of the toughest communities in the area.
“Moshie Zongo means the ghetto for the Moshie people,” he said. “That was where I was born and where I grew up.”
According to him, life in the area came with hardship but also strong community support.
“There was hardship, diseases and poverty,” he said. “We used to play football in the gutters and all that, but those days were still sweet.”
Blakk Rasta also recalled how children entertained themselves through local wrestling competitions.
“We learned how to wrestle,” he said. “You would wrestle and come out as champion depending on how many people you could bring down.”
Despite the struggles, he said the community spirit made the experience memorable.
“It was rough and tough,” he added, “but we supported each other so much.”
