I was the first person in my area to wear a tie – Blakk Rasta

Reggae musician Blakk Rasta says his academic progress and appearance once made him stand out in his community.
He explained that his neighbourhood in Tamale had limited resources, which made simple things appear remarkable.
“In my area I was the first person to wear a tie,” he said in a chat with Kafui Dey.
According to him, the tie was bought from a second-hand clothing market.
“I didn’t even know how to tie it properly,” he admitted. “I just made a knot around my neck.”
He said people in the neighbourhood were impressed by the sight.
“The ladies and the men would praise me and say, ‘You look nice, you look good,’” he recalled.
Blakk Rasta added that his performance in school further shaped how people saw him.
“Because I was doing quite well in school, people almost saw me as a role model,” he said.
