Mahama was watching and I’ve to ‘obey before complain’ – Stonebwoy on hug with Shatta Wale

Ghanaian dancehall star Stonebwoy has shared his perspective on the rare on-stage hug he shared with Shatta Wale at a fundraising event for the Black Stars, emphasizing respect for authority and the importance of national unity.

Stonebwoy spoke to Saddick Adams, known as Sports Obama, on Angel TV about the moment he and Shatta Wale embraced in front of President John Dramani Mahama on March 20, 2026.

The hug, which drew cheers from the audience, came after media personality Berla Mundi relayed a direct request from the president.

“I opted for a handshake initially,” Stonebwoy explained, “but Berla whispered to me to stay, and suddenly the spotlight was on us.

The president was watching, and you must respect power. No matter the situation, especially in front of the president, disobedience isn’t an option.”

“It was a very beautiful sight, a moment to respect authority and contribute positively,” he said.

Stonebwoy highlighted the role of artists in national causes, describing his participation as part of a duty to the youth and the country. “Anything that positively impacts the youth or contributes to the nation, I’m involved. It’s a national duty,” he said.
