People threw so many things at me – Wendy Shay

Wendy Shay says she is now in a much better place mentally and emotionally after years of dealing with pressure and criticism in the entertainment industry.

Speaking in an interview with Kafui Dey, the Artiste of the Year contender at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards reflected on her growth and personal journey in music.

According to the singer, the challenges she faced over the years helped her understand herself better and shaped the woman she has become today.

“People threw so many things at me,” she said while reflecting on her career journey. “I wouldn’t say I have arrived, but I am in a better place than I used to be.”

Wendy Shay explained that she now focuses more on inner peace and personal growth instead of trying to constantly prove herself to others.

“I’m actually beginning,” she stated. “Each day I am learning myself. I know myself enough now to know what I don’t like.”

The award-winning musician also opened up about embracing authenticity and staying true to herself despite public pressure and expectations.

“I don’t think I’ll ever want to be anybody but myself because I know who I am,” she explained.

According to Wendy Shay, she has reached a stage in life where she prefers to allow things to happen naturally instead of trying to control every situation around her.

Wendy Shay noted that she has reached a stage where she prefers to let life flow naturally instead of trying to control every situation around her.

According to her, spending time alone and going through personal struggles helped her become more reflective and spiritually aware.

The singer, who grew up partly in Germany before relocating to Ghana, said isolation helped her discover deeper parts of herself.

“I had introspective moments and solitude with myself,” she said. “Everything I went through made me the woman I am today.”

She also admitted that she enjoys her own company and is very selective about the people she keeps around her.

“I can stay in my room for a week,” she revealed. “I like reading books, researching and just being with myself.”
