Michael Essien, the former Ghanaian international, feels that the Black Stars were unfortunate not to win a title during his tenure with the national team.
Playing for the Black Stars from 2002 until his retirement from international football in 2012, Essien had a distinguished career. He played for Ghana in the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semifinals and the 2010 AFCON final when Egypt defeated them.
It still “hurts” to know that they were unable to bring home a trophy for the national team, Essien said.
“Yes, [it hurts that we didn’t win a trophy] because we were so unlucky with the AFCON 2008. We got so close, but it didn’t happen.
We would have loved to win something for the nation, but it didn’t happen, and we had to move on,” Essien said when talking on Sporty TV.
